Abstract The North China mid-summer (July) precipitation (NCJP) contributes the largest proportion of total annual in China, with significant interdecadal and interannual variability. variability NCJP was further investigated on basis a study its found that sea surface temperature (SST) pattern July located northwest Pacific, defined here as Pacific SST tripole (NWPT), can significantly influence NCJP, this relationship is regulated by decadal northern Atlantic (NNASST). Diagnostic analysis linear baroclinic model experiment indicate positive (negative) NWPT excite an anomalous anticyclone (cyclone) region centered Korean peninsula cyclone (anticyclone) off southeast Japan, thereby strengthening (weakening) NCJP.
